David Birnie

Campus Pastor - david.birnie@ruf.org

David and his wife Krista were called to work for RUF at the University of Washington in 2020. They met through RUF at Stanford University. David is a graduate of Gordon-Conwell seminary as well as Wake Forest University, where he was first introduced to RUF.

Born in California, David has lived all over the country, including Colorado, Massachusetts, and now, Washington. If he's not hanging out with students at UW, you might be able to find him reading in a coffee shop, watching new episodes of Ted Lasso (or old episodes of The Office and Arrested Development), playing basketball, ping pong, or enjoying the great outdoors in a variety of ways including (but not limited to) hiking, biking, golfing, rowing, kayaking, swimming, or any other way he can try to keep up with UW students.

David and Krista met when David was an RUF intern at Stanford and Krista was a grad student. It was love at first sight (well, maybe, not quite), and they got married in 2010. They have three kids: Annika (2014), Micah (2017), and Nate (2019). Each one is an absolute delight, and they are all excited about meeting more students at UW.

Caroline Newsom

Intern - caroline.newsom@ruf.org

Caroline grew up in Oxford, MS, and graduated from Ole Miss (Hotty Toddy!) Having never moved out of Mississippi, Caroline is excited to be in Seattle and experience a new part of the country. She has a passion for videography and video editing as well as clothing and fashion. In her free time, you can probably find her playing video games, listening to music, or, most often, hanging out with her friends. She hated coffee until she became a barista, but now all that has changed and she is looking forward to finding her new favorite, cozy coffee shop in Seattle and taking students there! But most of all, she is looking forward to all the ways she will grow in her relationship with the Lord and the students of UW!

Ben Floyd

Intern - ben.floyd@ruf.org

Ben graduated from North Carolina State University in Raleigh. He fell in love with RUF at NC State and hasn’t stopped since. He loves all hot drinks, board games, video games, climbing, music, and cooking, plus anything else that will give him an excuse to hang out with people or enjoy God. Ben is grateful for the privilege to explore a new place, and can’t wait to spend more time outside - even if it is raining.
