 Ryan and Amy Hughs

Ryan and Amy both grew up in Las Cruces, NM and were childhood friends. They attended the same elementary school, but parted ways in seventh grade when Amy and her family moved to Phoenix, AZ. They kept in touch via letters (you remember, the kind written on paper!) but then they lost touch until...Amy went to a two-year women’s college, Cottey College, in Missouri for two years, while Ryan attended New Mexico State University (NMSU) and both were given email addresses from their colleges and were reconnected through a mutual friend. Ryan and Amy renewed their friendship through this digital medium—soon Amy transferred to NMSU and the two began a deeper relationship that continues through wonderful years of marriage. Through their involvement in RUF at NMSU, Ryan and Amy discerned a call to the ministry. They followed God’s call, in 2001, to Covenant Theological Seminary, which is located in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2005, Ryan finished his Master of Divinity degree and in 2006, Amy completed her Masters degree in Human Resource Management at Washington University. Ryan and Amy have been serving with RUF at the University of Washington since spring 2006. Their awesome daughter Ava was born this year and has rocked their world! God is good.

Abby Shackelford

Abby recently graduated from the University of Florida in May 2009, with a double major in History and Religion and a minor in English Literature. While at UF, she was involved with RUF: joined student leadership, participated in missions, mercy ministry, conferences and lots of parties. Though a Hoosier by birth, Abby's family has lived in Florida since she was in high school. She is loving her life as a Seattleite! Abby can be reached at (206) 853-6116 or abby.shackelford@ruf.org.
